The approach to Estate planning varies based on the professional involved. Kathy Logan, CPA, CGA, CFP, TEP will discuss the approach she takes with her clients when starting an estate plan or reviewing an existing plan.

The second part of the presentation will include an overview of the T3 Trust Income Tax and Information Return for Estates highlighting some of the common issues that arise, the various income and expenses reported and other information that is required to be reported on the return.

Kathy Logan, CPA, CGA, CFP, TEP

After working at several accounting firms for over 20 years, Kathy established her accounting firm, Logan Accounting in 2015. She practices as a sole practitioner in Victoria, BC. In addition to the accounting and tax services she provides to her clients, a growing focus of her practice has been in the area of estate planning and estate administration.

She ensures her clients have an estate plan properly structured to ensure their wishes will be followed on their death. Taxes on death, insurance and other issues are important and discussed but a successful estate plan is one that meets the needs and wishes of the client. She has experience with using Alter Ego Trusts as part of an estate plan and advised on when this may be appropriate. Working closely with other professionals helps her clients receive the best advice and service.

Estate trustees and executors face significant challenges after the death of a family member. Kathy is there to provide assistance to the trustees with all aspects of estate administration including interacting with financial institutions, filling out forms, and acting as a liaison with other professionals.

She is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Victoria and an active member of South Vancouver Island Public Practice Tax group. For the last few years, she has been a guest speaker at the University of the Fraser Valley.
