Kurt and Allison will be examining options for intergenerational farm transfer with a focus on the income tax implications. They will cover the general rules that apply, including the distinction between "good" and "bad" assets, the use of the Capital Gains Exemption, and the general rules governing the transfer of farm partnerships. Additionally, they will discuss some common pitfalls to avoid.
A significant portion of their presentation will be devoted to discussing the impact of the "Bill C-208" rules on farm families. They will provide an overview of the history of these rules, how they currently apply in 2023, and the changes that are set to take effect in 2024. They will highlight the advantages of using these rules and provide information on the restrictions that will be imposed based on the 2023 Federal Budget.
